Netto Wins Prestigious German Award for Digimarc on Packaging

April 30, 2021

German retailer Netto Marken-Discount has been awarded the German Packaging Prize 2020 in the digitization category for its private label brand packaging with Digimarc. The award is given by the German Packaging Institute as part of DVI Dialogue Week. Digimarc is an imperceptible digital identity, repeated across packaging to improve retail operations, including making checkout faster.

This is the second time in 2020 Digimarc’s work with Netto has been recognized in Europe. In February, Digimarc received the “Top Supplier Retail 2020” award from the EHI Retail Institute for its work adding Digimarc to Netto’s packaging.

Netto is the first retailer in Europe to add Digimarc to its private label packaging. It has more than 4,260 stores and 21 million customers weekly and is one of the most recognized discount retailers in Germany.

In the Netto announcement, Christina Stylianou, Head of Corporate Communications at Netto said, “Our goal is to use digital innovations to simplify workflows for our colleagues and our customers, to further improve the shopping experience for our customers and to make our product range more sustainable overall.”

Digimarc’s partner Wipak also received a Gold Award in the sustainability category for Green Haven vegetarian sausages. Wipak produced a removable sleeve with Digimarc that can be scanned for recycling information.
