Author Profile: Matthew Szerencse (rhymes with "parents")

Matthew has been at Digimarc for a few years now. Before moving to the Pacific Northwest, he spent eight years in Los Angeles working in the music industry and rubbing elbows with Hollywood elites (don't let him fool you — it was really C-level reality TV outcasts). Although Matthew is still "green" compared to Digimarc's mad scientists and watermarking experts, he spent six years working in technology roles within the music industry including Online Marketing, Mobile Marketing and Digital Sales. Matthew anticipates being nominated for "Blogger of the Year" after readers start engaging with his insightful posts describing new, exciting mobile technology developments.

Matthew graduated as a triple business major from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, and has an MBA from California State University Dominguez Hills.

If you can't get enough of Matthew's blog posts, then you should check out his special section specifically about interactive trends in the publishing industry. Digital watermarks, QR codes, augmented reality... he dishes on it all.

Scan of the Week - HGTV Magazine

Everyone loves to win.  I’m guessing most of you are like me and have no shot of winning your March Madness bracket.  So, let’s Ring in Spring by tossing those brackets and grabbing the April issue of HGTV Magazine.  Not only does the latest issue of HGTV Magazine feature this week’s Scan of the Week, but it also includes 30 different chances to win.  HGTV Magazine has a two page spread (pg. 138 and 139) promoting the 30 Days of Giveaways.  Every day in April readers have a chance to win daily prizes by scanning the watermark (using the Digimarc Discover app).  Some of the great prizes include a HGTV Magazine Garden Tool Kit, Singer One sewing machine and the grand prize: a professional spring cleaning of your home.   Good luck!

Scan of the Week - Rolling Stone at SXSW

Last week Rolling Stone magazine used Digimarc Discover digital watermarking at their Rock Room event in Austin, Texas. The SXSW party, sponsored by Maker's Mark, included three watermarked banners featuring recent Rolling Stone covers from Jimmy Fallon, Breaking Bad and Metallica. After scanning each cover, attendees could see video footage from the photo-shoot.

Since it was a Rolling Stone event, attendees were also treated to some amazing music from Fitz and The Tantrums, Free Energy, Charles Bradley and others.

Thanks Rolling Stone, Maker’s Mark and all the incredible Rock Room performances!

Scan of the Week - Portland Monthly

Portland. The city best known for their beards, beers, and birds is also a town of Food Nerds (for the record, I mean that as a compliment). Portlanders love their food carts, anything sustainable and bacon.

Portland Monthly highlights Portland's love of food in its March issue featuring 60 meals under $20. Also included in the March issue, is this week's Scan of the Week! Portland Monthly uses Digimarc's menu button overlay on a Nahm Prik Ong image. After scanning the image, readers can download a shopping list for making Nahm Prik Ong and can watch a recipe video. In this example, Portland Monthly demonstrates how you can have multiple engagements from one watermark. Congrats again to Portland Monthly for providing succulent, interactive content in their latest issue.
