Ben is a geek at heart. He built his own 8088 IBM XT Clone at the age of 16. And yes, it had a 15 Meg hard drive and he even had a CGA monitor for hard core gaming. Ben has been working professionally in the technology industry for many years. He's been a Quality Assurance Engineer, an Automation Engineer, a Technical Marketing Engineer, and served at Digimarc as not only a blogger, but as a Product Manager. Four years at Oregon State pursuing Computer Engineering was enough so he continued his education at PSU for a BS in Business Management and an additional BS in Information Systems.

Ben has taken a new opportunity outside of Digimarc. We wish him well and sure will miss him. This page, along with all his posts, shall remain as a testament (shrine?) to his knowledge and years served with us!

Update! Digimarc Helps 8th Grade Science Fair Project Win 1st Place!

A while back I posted about an 8th grader who won first place at a regional science fair. Patrick's project incorporated digital watemarking as a means to help deliver dosage information for OTC drugs. If you missed it, you can read it here. Well, that young man was invited to the state science fair and I'm very happy to say that he got 1st place again. Even better, he received an award for the "Best in Category" for Behavior Science which included over 200 projects.

Congratulations young man! Digimarc is very proud of your acomplishments. He's now entered his science fair project in the 3M/Discover Channel contest. Best of luck! A future entrepreneur or scientist is certainly among us.

He told us that the judges asked him why it's not happening today... We agree! Someone get a move on it!

Digimarc Helps 8th Grade Science Fair Project win 1st Place!

A few months ago a sharp 8th grade student named Patrick reached out to me, inquiring about the use of digital watermarks on over-the-counter (OTC) drugs to deliver dose information. He believes this would help reduce the number of dosage error found in pharmacies nationwide. Always willing to help out a budding technologist, Digimarc gladly supported this project. I'm happy to say he received first place in his regionals and is off to the State Science Fair at the University of Illinois very shortly. Nice job, Patrick!

Digimarc Discover and SI and TV

If you read Matthew's previous post describing our technology in the 2012 Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition, you're well aware of what's going on. Digimarc Discover was used to essentially bring the models to life. Readers can get videos of each of the models' shoots delivered right to their smartphone device.

Our local KOIN 6 news also caught on and did a great piece on the technology and how it wass used. View the clip below to get a good overview of what we are doing with digital watermarks:

Great Display of an Integrated Marketing Campaign Using Digimarc Discover

I've got some great news I wanted to share with everyone. We've posted a few times within our blog about how House Beautiful was integrating digital watermarks within their publication. The results have been just wonderful and I'm happy to announce that momentum has been building.

They've now partnered with Glidden Paint to launch a marketing campaign for the February edition. Readers will be able to access the MyColortopia site, which is Glidden's new color portal. It's pretty cool that House Beautiful now has interactive editorial and advertising content enabled through Digimarc Discover. Read all about it here. Nice work House Beautiful!
